On Tuesdays, we … journal about our experience training for the New York City Marathon. At least until it happens in November. These posts are paid-only because a) I am not an exercise scientist or licensed personal trainer with the authority to share actionable advice to a general audience b) they are written in a loose style with a lot of jargon that I’d definitely take time to explain if this was a public Leg Day post c) writing about exercise is embarrassing and I am vain.
I went on vacation. I couldn’t relax the entire time. Partly that was because I was on a schedule with my family that required constant 7 am wake ups. But it didn’t help that I couldn’t turn off the part of my brain that was supposed to be training for the marathon.
I did manage to run three times during the week I was in Peru. I suppose I should be proud of that, but honestly, each one felt a little like a failure. I didn’t manage to do speed work, I didn’t hit my tempo pace, and my “long run” lasted all of thirty minutes. Blame the altitude, sure. All I could focus on was how far from my goal I had ended up.
